Last night I flipped channels after watching 'New Tricks" on PBS, and caught the pilot episode of "Miami Vice" on NBC - hosted by Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell as a promo for their upcoming remake opening this Friday. I was a bit horrified to hear it being described as a milestone in television - I much preferred "Moonlighting" and even "Max Headroom" to Miami Vice, but remember watching it as they always included Miami street scenes. Living in Miami during the time it was filmed, it was always amusing to see the lack of continuity location wise - one frame would be in Coconut Grove, the next on the beach, the next downtown, all pieced together as if they were all around the corner from one another.
Seeing all of the retro-clothes offered for sale in the teen-focused stores has made me a little nostalgic, but in an odd sense. I find myself wishing I was in London in 82 with my grandmother and grandfather, but as an adult, so I could really get to know them - that, and be a part of the New Wave/New Romantic scene. Of course , this is all symptomatic of my tendency to live in the past (or future) and not see what is in front of me right now, but it would have been great to see Visage perform this gem live:
Now why can't pop music sound like that anymore?! I am quite the fan of synth-pop, electronica, and ambient music, and my heart has a soft spot for that late to's to mid 80's heavy synth music. Mr.Moog, I love you!
