Here's wishing all of you a healthy, happy, and prosperous 2009! This is a year of change and clearing the decks to make room for something better and more worthwhile.
I've embraced the spirit of this by merciless purging, freecycling, reorganizing and recycling these past three weeks. The apartment has been re-arranged, and even though I've brought in more furniture (much needed to corral my items), I now have more floor space. Home is so much more pleasant and airy, and I'm looking forward to entertaining at home.
I'll be posting my goals for the year soon, as well as reorganizing some of the categories and layout to reflect my professional and personal lives.

An Exotic Greyhound in Casablanca
Hello cocktail lovers! I took a bit of an unplanned break from my cocktail blogging to see what direction life would take me next, and I am happy to say that blogging, travel, and writing, in addition to other happy developments are at its center.
Last Saturday, I went to see the legendary James Ivory speak at the Brattle in Harvard Square, and was a little peaky afterward. I knew that a little pick me up was needed, and headed next door to Casablanca, which is a legend in its own right. As expected, I had to circuit the bar a couple of times until I found a spot, and squeezed myself in. I wanted something that was sweet with a bite, a liquid version of the bright-yet-cool, Spring is just at hand days we've had here in New England. Scanning the menu, I found the Sweet Pomegranate Greyhound - Vodka, freshly-squeezed grapefruit juice on the rocks with pomegranate molasses, with a maraschino cherry lurking in its murky depths and garnished with a wedge of orange:
Pleasantly sweet without being syrupy, there was just enough pomegranate flavor to give it depth, and counterbalance some of the bite of the grapefruit. The aforementioned sunken cherry was a nice treat, too, barely visible through the molasses and ice:
Revived by the health-giving combination of quality, near tasteless vodka (antibacterial, I'm sure), the Vitamin C in the grapefruit juice, and the anti-oxidant or somesuch and mineral cocktail of the pomegranate molasses, I ventured out and down the 3-D rabbit hole of the new Alice in Wonderland. If you're in the Square, do go to Casablanca, park yourself in one of those wonderful covered seats to the left of the bar, and have this drink without delay.
